Community Arts Project North East

Diane Gray and Ben Hudson

Diane and Ben met one another at Bede’s World Museum in Jarrow in 2014.  Diane was the Manager of the community radio station based at the museum and Ben was the Volunteer Coordinator and also a volunteer for the radio.  When Bede’s World closed Diane and Ben discussed the idea of keeping the radio station going.  They ascertained that the new site managers were not interested in keeping the radio station so they set up Community Arts Project North East as a social enterprise and registered as a Community Interest Company.  Initially they worked from home and then moved into an office and radio studio in Bilton Hall Community Trust in Jarrow.  They subsequently moved to Perth Green CA. They have worked with a wide range of other community groups and enterprises, as well as charities, schools, colleges, local businesses and local authorities.  In January 2021 they decided to close CAPNE and Hive Radio to focus on podcasts and the Hive Radio Storytellers. Community Arts Project North East offers training for individuals, school groups, community groups and businesses to gain skills in communication, presentation, and IT. Producing radio programmes, podcasts and digital stories.
